What is a mental health nurse practitioner?

A mental health nurse practitioner is a nurse who has earned either a Master's or Doctorate degree with a focus on mental health.  In the state of Wisconsin, mental health nurse practitioners provide psychiatric assessments and diagnoses, medication prescription and management, as well as counseling.

How do I make an appointment?

We offer online scheduling so that you can find a time that fits best with your schedule.  Click here to schedule online.  Complete the intake questions and use the calendar function to self-schedule.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

The first appointment is 50 minutes and is a time to get to know you - your journey so far and your goals for the future.  Together we will create a personalized plan for you and take time to answer any questions you may have.

Appointment logistics:

  • Free parking is available in the covered parking structure on the first floor

  • The building is ADA accessible

  • We are located within INVIVO Wellness - take the elevator or stairs to the third floor

  • Check in with the INVIVO front desk staff when you arrive

How frequently do I need an appointment?

Oftentimes we begin with an appointment every other week for a few weeks, then once a month once more stability is reached, then every three to six months, or as needed.  However, this varies depending on the person.

What ages do you work with?

We treat adults ages 18 and up.  All are welcome at Lake Effect Wellness, and we are fervent supporters of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ members of our community.

What is your mission statement?

We provide inclusive and personalized mental health care for adults - to create growth when you feel stuck, to find fulfillment and contentment in your life, and to provide holistic education for living a healthy life.

What is the cost of the intake appointment?

Our mental health intake appointments provide personalized psychiatric and holistic care and cost $350 per appointment.  Payment is due at time of appointment.  Payment can be made with a valid credit card, debit card, or HSA card.  We do not accept insurance.

Is insurance accepted?

No, we do not accept insurance at this time.  We do accept payment from HSA cards.

What is the cancellation policy?

At Lake Effect Wellness, we require a valid credit card on file for each client.  We require at least 24 hours notice of cancellation or rescheduling an appointment, otherwise the card on file will be charged a fee of $100.

What is the wait time for a new client appointment?

While it varies, on average you will be seen for a new client intake appointment within two weeks.  Please see the calendar within SimplePractice for the most up to date schedu;e.

What is SimplePractice?

SimplePractice is our electronic health record system.  It is HIPAA secure, and it offers the following:

  • Electronic intake forms

  • Online scheduling for appointments

  • Secure and safe messaging to Leah

  • Electronic medication refill requests

  • Secure bill payment
